Invention Live - CountrySide, Sexy Bitch, A Neat Science
AMO Presents Invention Live
At Invention, we're dedicated to bringing you the best local talent, whilst simultaneously providing the most talented groups from the thriving Bath and Bristol music scene with a venue to play and a platform on which to demonstrate their skills. That's why we're putting on a semi-regular series of music nights under the Invention Live banner - at 8.00pm we open our doors to the public and showcase what we think are some of the most exciting bands in the area, whether rising stars or big names. Keep an eye on the What's On section so you don't miss out!
On the 9th, Invention Live will feature three groups, each with their own dynamic take on the rock genre:
Leading the evening lineup,

come fresh from their 2007 EP

with a style described by Radio Exile as "shoegaze with pop." Combining elements of alternative, grindcore, and indie rock, CountrySide count amongst their influences "bbqs and natural views, summer nights and drunken fights, cold blue mountains and panther outings." The band is hitting prime time in a big way, with play on Radio One and reviews in ORGAN and Beatnik, so this is a great time to catch the group before they go stratospheric! Praise for CountrySide:
"A seriously top band and a great addition to Bristol's vibrant music scene."
- Bristol Uncovered
"CountrySide ... (r)ocked like the indie rock gods they are destined to become. A touch of Grandaddy here, and a hint of Flaming Lips there all adds up to a great band."
- Beatnik Filmstars
"Music to fall in love with, we adored this from the very first note ... a wonderful mix of warm, inviting, delicate, substantial lo-fi indie alt-rock. This really is something special."
- ORGAN Magazine
Salsa/Rock/Funk quartet
Sexy Bitch
will be unleashing songs from their latest work,
"Canis De Sexus,"
featuring a mix of cover pieces reinterpreted with the band's characteristic 'electro meets post-rock' sound and original compositions. The group cites an ecletic mix of influences ranging from the Rolling Stones through Nirvana to Mogwai, and are winning over critics worldwide with their immediate style and outrageous showmanship. Venue on Sexy Bitch:
"Urgent, PiL-infected roars sit alongside jangly C86-ness, Chic-funk ... (Sexy Bitch) offers the best falsetto since Jagger..."
Last but not least, describing themselves as
"rock, Jim, but not as our Mum taught (us),"
A Neat Science
pushes the genre to its limits with their own brand of spectacularly energetic post-hardcore. The foursome have recently released their new EP,
Devolutionary Point-Scoring Systems,
combining complex, atonal crescendos, breathtakingly ambitious time changes and careening stop-start dynamics to create a truly original sound.
Tickets are £5.00 on the door, with a special introductory concession price of £4.00 for students. Performances start at 8.30pm sharp, so get in early!
